The foundation stone of the Western Mystery Tradition is the QABBALAH. You will find that it is the Bhagavad-Gita, Upanishads and the Sutras that are the foundation of the Eastern Tradition. Within the Qabbalah there is a vast complex of philosophy, psychology, religious texts, alchemy, astrology, ritual, and also Rosicrucian, Masonic and Tarot symbolism. To appreciate the practical applications of the Qabbalah you must become involved. In this way it will help you to grow in wisdom and knowledge. The uses of the Qabbalah are tremendous helping us to understand and communicate to others our inner experiences and creating a very useful bridge between our inner and outer awareness. It can help us formulate our ideas and express those thoughts in a clear and precise way. We can learn and re-learn the meanings of symbology both obscure and misunderstood and the connection between all the correspondences that are mentioned, and importantly to test the truth of these and that what we already know.
We will find that everything in and beyond the world is represented by the Tree of Life. It is vast, incorporating religions from the East and West, astrology, numerology, god forms, gems, stones, runes, colours, animals, perfumes, flowers, magical implements, symbols and much more, and yet, it is as personal as your secret thoughts. It opens the door of the occult, that mystical, supernatural desire that runs through the human mind. It encourages the study and pursuit of wisdom and knowledge and quenches the thirst when seeking beyond the range of ordinary knowledge. It is EVERY-THING and NO-THING. It can be whatever you WANT it to be. The beauty of the Tree of Life is that it can be everything to everyone.
Once you have become a Qabbalist student you begin to realize that the mystical, magic and supernatural go hand in hand with the nature and functions of the mind. The quiet, often lengthy and disciplined teachings of the East and the more energetic involved teachings of the West blend together on the Tree of Life in harmony. All our stages of consciousness are represented and explained for us to understand and what is beyond our sight and mind becomes clearer giving form to physical images.
The earth is a living thing and the laws which govern it are the same as those which govern the cosmos - the Macrocosm and man the Microcosm. At the time of The Fall when man fell from spirit, so did the planet. Man was once one with the whole. At that divine level his consciousness vibrated at a higher frequency, but as be became attracted to the material world so did the frequency of vibration become lower and denser. The Crown and the Root chakras represent the polarities positive and negative or spirit and matter. Spirit fell into matter at the time of The Fall and so in man spirit descends passing down through the axis of the spine until on reaching the base it turns back and starts to ascend the spinal column. The Staff of Hermes, called The Caduceus is a portrayal of the manner in which these energies work in man. They move in a spiral form and where they cross each other lies one of the Seven Major Chakras.
The Hindus call the chakras WHIRLING WHEELS because that is what they look like to the naked eye. The chakras have also been called The 7 Roses on the cross of the vital body. The Rosicrucians have chosen the rose which lies at heart-level for their symbol.
Once a great truth has been uncovered one discovers hints of it in many works, in many lands. This is because TRUTH is universal; it does not belong to only one people. Many mysteries were secreted into the Holy Bible in order that man may discover the ancient wisdom for himself. In Revelations, John mentions the 7 Churches - could these be reference to the chakras? He also states that in a vision he saw around the throne of God were 24 elders, dressed in white with crowns on their heads. In the middle of the throne was a crystal and around it 4 beasts - a lion, a calf, a beast with the face of a man and a flying eagle. These symbols are the four fixed signs of the Zodiac - Leo, Taurus, Aquarius and Scorpio. There were also 7 lamps of fire and a book with 7 seals.
The Crown Chakra is very often portrayed in paintings of saints and angels as a 'halo' around their heads. The temple of man is the temple of his own forehead, within it lies the Ark, the secret instrument given to Moses by God with which he could communicate with his Higher Self. Every human being possesses their own Ark of the Covenant by which they can be at One with their concept of the godhead. It is the 3rd Eye. When one speaks of the Centres of Mystery in the world, the secret monasteries of the White Brotherhood, they are to be found in another dimension of time and space, not on this earth.
In the Holy Mysteries of the Western Tradition we are given to a steady progression up The Tree of Life according to the Melchizadek approach. This helps us to learn how to become a Priest-King by accepting responsibility for all our actions. To help our developing soul it does not matter if we decide to make our image of Melchizadek into a Guardian Angel, sexless or opposite sex to our gender. We use an archetype that works for us because the 'sacrifice' is the same for any human being regardless of sex it is the act of inner intention that counts. Orthodox religion has done itself a great deal of harm by trying to conceal the old symbolism of sex and the facts of fertility and Nature. The Pagans were far more credible with their honest account of the Cosmos being a result of a gigantic sex relationship between the polarities of life seen through the God and Goddess aspects. How Christianity expects its followers to accept a God-the-Father without a God-the-Mother is a mystery.
“Books may be the spark that germinates the seed of awakening, but no book can open the door that leads through the portal of light - for between the book and the portal is the path that goes through the maze of becoming. Only one who has walked the path may show another the way. Both the book and the portal are points in Time and Space in the Path of Evolution forged together by the meeting of Creator and Created.”
‘MEDITATION CAN GIVE YOU KNOWLEDGE, BUT ONLY LIFE CAN GIVE YOU EXPERIENCE’ This is the difference between a Mystic and a Materialist. The Mystic lives for Divine union through knowledge. The Materialist lives for material satisfaction through experience. As human beings we are all “Gods children”, or, to put it another way, “Child Gods”. We are the Magi!, who alone in God’s creation have the ability to experience Divine union and Material satisfaction as in integrated unity. The Magus (singular Magi) longs to return to the ONE, but knows that to do so he must, first, accept his inheritance. Before he can know God, he must know himself and the world in which he lives, moves and has his being. Neither the Mystic nor the Materialist can find the way home alone. As always, somewhere in the middle is the Right path, the path of the Magi.
