EVERYDAY PSYCHIC PHENOMENA

MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCE PARANORMAL, PSYCHIC AND ENERGETIC EVENTS
People from all walks of life experience a variety of spontaneous psychic, paranormal and energetic events during their everyday life – without doing anything out of the ordinary to provoke them.
Many of us have experienced déjà vu, synchronicity as events unfolded around us or have had a premonition or foresight of events that later came to pass. Perhaps you have had a lucid dream or out-of-body experience or been the focus of a visit by a recently deceased friend or family member.
Individual experience of even the simplest event of this kind can be impactful and is often characterised by a sense of something profound having taken place - a glimpse into a richer and more complex version of reality hinting at what lies just beyond our ordinary perceptions!

∙ been pondering a difficult question, absorbed in your own thoughts before unexpectedly encountering a discarded newspaper or magazine from whose randomly opened pages certain words seemed to ‘fly off the page’, providing a fresh viewpoint or even a direct answer to your dilemma?
Energetic recognition or familiarity
∙ met someone for the first time and despite being able to confirm that you could not have previously met them in this physical life, felt certain you recognized them at the moment of introduction?
Many readers would be able to add examples of similar phenomena as well as variations to this short list, each a small glimpse that suggests there is a great deal of life left to be uncovered by us all.
HOW DO THEY HAPPEN?
Paranormal, psychic and energetic events are driven by principles and mechanisms that are less well understood when compared to more conventional areas of scientific investigation - such as physics for example. Conventional approaches to scientific endeavor are limited by the idea that our physical existence provides the basis for life and that consciousness (spirit, soul) is a function of the physical body rather than the other way round.
If we remain rational and scientifically objective but move past this rather limited conventional viewpoint, we can begin to explore how these extraordinary experiences work - and tap the potential they offer us to improve our understanding of life and our place in it.
All the experiences we have already discussed suggest that there is a direct link between consciousness (our individual selves, soul or essence, beyond the physical) and the way in which the events in our physical life unfold and are experienced.
ENERGIES
The first thing we can look at that will help us understand what lies behind these events is energies, and more specifically, bioenergies.
Bioenergy (also know as prana or chi) is the term given to the individual energetic field that plays a vital role in sustaining each of us – the same energies that surround every living thing. Whilst each of us has our own, unique energetic field, at the same time, everyone on the planet is also immersed in a kind of ‘sea’ of energies. The type and quality of the energies in this great ‘sea’ varies from place to place dependent on many factors.
All of us have some experience of this; a change in the way we feel as we arrive at a particular location or leave it, or discomfort (or perhaps a great sense of ease!) in the presence of one individual or another.
EXCHANGING ENERGIES
We are affected in this way because the energies of our personal energetic field interact freely with those of our environment as well as with those of each other in a process of constant exchange. It is this exchange of energies that allows the example of premonition described above to take place. The impact of the energies of another individual on our personal energetic field triggers our awareness of them just before they telephone us and we are surprised (or perhaps unsurprised!) to find them on the line. Simply by thinking of us, they are sending their energies in our direction and if we are open and attentive, their energies touching our existing energetic field is noticeable – and we become aware of them before the physical event.
So we can see that external energetic influences play a big part in our lives, but it is our own thoughts and sentiments or ‘core ideas’, the things we really think and feel that formulate the structure and quality of our personal energetic field. Each day, as we respond to the stimulus of the events we encounter, our personal energetic field changes with our changing thoughts and sentiments.
ENERGETIC AFFINITY
Some synchronicities are also the result of energetic principles – but this time, the mechanism involves energetic affinity. Not only does our personal energetic field interact with the energies around us, it attracts energies that are similar in quality and frequency. The more strongly we believe something, the more embedded an idea or sentiment is within us, the more powerfully it exhibits in our personal energetic field - and the more prominently and frequently it appears in our life. Synchronicities also happen because of existing energetic connections between people, events and places that can even be part of previous lives. The experience of synchronicity generally involves a sense of awareness of ourselves as part of the underlying energetic cause of events as well a participant as they take place!
Déjà vu is another phenomenon that involves both energetic principles and often, more complex psychic phenomena also. This kind of experience takes place when we suddenly ‘remember’ something we had already foreseen or experienced whilst projected out of our physical body (an ‘out-of-body experience' or OBE'’) when the actual or replicating events take place in the physical world – despite being unaware of having had an OBE in the first place! Later, our participation in the physical events causes an energetic ‘jolt’ and the memory created during our OBE is suddenly recovered!
IF THESE EVENTS ARE HAPPENING ALL THE TIME, WHY DON’T WE NOTICE THEM MORE?
As we have seen, these energetic phenomena are part of everyday life, whether we are aware of them or not. If this is the case, why is it that we only get glimpses into this greater reality every now and again?
OUR REFERENCES ARE STUCK
Each of us relates to the world around us through a set of values or ‘reference points’ that we have built up as we go through life; we compare each event, input and stimulus we experience against what we already know to decide ‘what does this mean to me?’ and over time, build a complex view of life and our place in it.
What we believe today defines today’s motives, interests and actions and we invest our time and energies trying to achieve the things we want and establishing our personal stability.
If we encounter new information that includes ideas or experiences outside our existing references, it is easy to feel threatened and uncomfortable; the temptation to reject them or display unhealthy cynicism means it is very easy to become stuck in the same old references and become ‘closed’ – excluding much of what is new and blocking your energetic field.
Caution is important in choosing the source of information, though. Many organizations, including the International Academy of Consciousness, based in London, provide knowledge and training based on substantiated and researched information.
WE ARE EASILY INFLUENCED
Unless we have well developed bioenergetic self-awareness and control (a practical skill that can be learned by anyone) we may be involuntarily influenced by the energies with which we come into contact. Many people do not have much experience or practical understanding of the non-physical realities of life – as the energetic ‘sea’ in which we all live is a combination of naturally occurring energies and the ideas, thoughts and sentiments of the people who live within it, the global energetic field tends to ‘disallow’ possibilities that are outside the group’s reference points, making it more difficult for us as individuals to remain open and balanced and to make up our own minds as to the value of new ideas that are not well accepted.
DOGMAS
Being brought up to believe in something without having any means to verify it for yourself is another damaging process that leads to the exclusion of new possibilities and experiences.
Defending our position, being unwilling to change or reluctant to take reasonable personal risks leads to a kind of ‘inversion’ of life in which the pursuit of control and predictability replaces the actual experience of living. Life becomes dull and lacklustre as our energetic exchanges become increasingly narrow and less rich.
This cycle of behaviours is one of the main reasons that we do not have more psychic, paranormal and energetic episodes.
WHY ARE THESE THINGS IMPORTANT AND WHAT ARE THEY TELLING US?
Paranormal and psychic experiences provide us with new reference points that fall outside the boundaries of what we already know. These experiences are gradually absorbed into our references – after all, as with any experience, if it happens repeatedly, we gradually become familiar with it and learn to understand it, including it in our view of life.
If the momentary, individual experience provides a glimpse into a greater reality, it is the full and permanently expanded view we really seek and it is for this reason these experiences are important – they offer us the opportunity to expand our awareness and understanding of life and the role we are playing in creating our own reality.
WHAT CAN WE DO AND HOW CAN WE HAVE MORE EXPERIENCES?
It is possible for anyone to develop their energetic abilities by learning to master their bioenergies – a process which, like any worthwhile endeavor, requires some time and application but which increases psychism and expands our awareness to include non-physical realities. Different organisations have been established to help people who would like to develop their energetic capabilities and gain the benefits that come with this.
